Replacing a missing tooth with an implant is a multi-step procedure that often involves an oral surgeon. Titanium posts are implanted in the jaw bone to support a crown which replaces the tooth.
Since the posts are implanted below the gums at first, an oral surgeon may be asked to perform that operation and could take you through completion with the permanent crown.
